Fortunately, most of us will never be able to truly imagine how the shooting in Connecticut will leave a hole in the souls of those impacted. There are no words capable of adequately expressing how saddened we feel for the families, the first responders and the entire Sandy Hook school community in Newtown.
Closer to home on Christmas Eve, in Webster NY where our company is based, a man set fire to his home and ambushed firefighters, fatally shooting two of them as they arrived to battle the blaze. Two other volunteer firefighters were wounded in the attack and the pre-dawn blaze eventually destroyed seven homes along Lake Ontario and damaged two others. The reality of the impact of these events are extremely unsettling.
We will continue to view, or try to avoid watching, through traditional and social media channels, how these individuals cope with a loss that very few of us will ever experience. And the memory of both tragic events will slip away for most of us in a few weeks as the struggles in our own lives once again occupy our thoughts and drive our daily actions.
But those who’ve lost a child or other loved one are left with a horrific stain on their heart, and one must admit that human effort alone in this area seems insufficient to wipe it away. Our sincere expressions of compassion can feel useless in defeating grief, so our fervent prayers are desperately needed, as is our financial support.
One of our website customers, the Connecticut PTSA, met with community leaders in Newtown and they immediately established the Connecticut PTSA Sandy Hook Fund. Consider donating to this very special cause and help lessen the anticipated burden on the Sandy Hook community.
The Webster Community Chest is now accepting monetary donations for the families affected by the tragic Christmas Eve fires in Webster NY. Checks may be written out to the Webster Community Chest and mailed to 1000 Ridge Road, Webster, NY 14580. On the memo line please write: Fire – 12/24. Donations are also being taken through their website.
We wish you a very blessed and Merry Christmas and safe and Happy New Year.
